Frequently Asked Questions About Ms. Minka's Physical Education Class
Q1: Are there make-up opportunities available?
A1: See the Schoology make-up folder located in each Schoology courses. In that folder, there is a listing of what the student should do if he/she misses class. Some make-up sessions require face-to-face make-up, and the student should just let me know when he/she will be attending that make-up session. E-school is a good gauge of what needs to be completed. It’s the student's responsibility to monitor E-school. Arrangements must be arranged ahead of time. The student should just mail message me in Schoology and let me know when he/she will attend a session. Options:
Q2: Why is the content knowledge folder for Schoology closed?
A2: I will always close down the folder 5 days prior to the end of the making period to grade all the last minute submissions and the re-submissions. I need to do this in order to meet my report card deadlines. Students have 8 weeks to work through a series of tasks in the Health Related Fitness Folder in order to have a better understanding of what we’re learning in class or how the sports, games, and activities are helping improve their fitness levels. There is a new folder that is centered around heart health and our new heart rate monitor program. Students will need to work in both folders simultaneously! Regular daily points class points will still be calculated into the marking period grade. It is just the content knowledge folder in Schoology that will close.
Q3: Is there extra credit available?
A3: Extra credit is given periodically at the teacher's digression. Students should not rely on extra credit to improve their grades.
Q4: My son / daughter cannot meet the standard, perform the skill, or understand the concepts. What can he / she do to earn a higher grade?
A4: On my website there is a process students can go through if they are struggling with a particular unit, and would like to still ensure a higher grade for the marking period. Please use this link and look for the Growth Mind-set option. http://wppe.weebly.com/evaluation-and-grading-in-pe.html Information for this portion is in purple.
Q5: How should I find out more information about my grade?
A5: Students should "mail message" me in Schoology if they have a particular question about their grade. There is no class time available to discuss a student’s individual situation as I need to instruct and grade during class time. Information that should be included in that message: Name of the assignment, date of the assignment, points possible for the assignment, and then the question the student has. A screenshot of home access would help, but isn’t necessary.
Q6: Are make-up sessions only for excused absences?
A6: No! Make-up can also be used for extra help! Students may come and work on skills, or just to complete assignments in Schoology if they need some extra help.
Q7: Can I make-up excused absences ahead of time?
A7: Yes! If students know they are going to miss a week or two for medical or vacations that have been excused by the school, they may come in prior to the absence(s), and work on the standards that will be covered during their absence. It is the student's responsibility to inform me to when he/she is coming within a reasonable time frame.
Q8: Do I have to make-up medical situations?
A8: Yes! A doctor's note is needed to be considered a "medical," but like every other class, it's expected to be made up. There are skills, concepts, strategies, and content knowledge that is learned as well as heart rate data to be analyzed. If you aren't participating in those planned learning activities, than I cannot evaluate if you've met standard. There are some activities that can be learned from the sideline. The student can use apps and tools to demonstrate he/she understood the learning, but other standards call for the student to "demonstrate" in which case make-ups MUST take place.
Parents can email me at [email protected] or call me at 302-323-2804 x4112. Once parent/s gain the access codes in Schoology, they may mail message me in Schoology. It's a streamlined mail system that can allow both parties to see all responses at a glance!
