Do you ever start doing a research paper or any random homework and you get a text message from your friend and you answer it? Well you just got distracted and lost focus of what you were doing. You tend to lose focus very quickly at times and it happens so frequently that you don’t even realize it. You could be in class doing an assignment and your friend starts talking about the football game last night and you interact with the conversation, once again you just lost focus of your assignment. The focus is the center of interest or activity.
When it comes to me, I get distracted very easily. I’ve always had that bad habit of losing focus. Whether it’s a presentation, a class assignment, a conversation, a soccer game or literally anything, I’ve always found it difficult to understand why. I feel like it may be because I tend to lose interest in things very quickly. For example, if we are learning something in class and it’s a topic that I don’t find so appealing, I will automatically lose interest in what I am doing. Sometimes someone may be presenting in class and if the topic isn’t interesting, I might lose interest and stop interacting with it. So I can argue that my lack of focus can come from the lack of interest in what is going on at the moment. However, during my soccer games, it’s not boring but I still seem to lose focus.
I also tend to lose focus when I have a lot of things on my mind. For example, if there are activities going on at home and I’m in class I tend to constantly think about the situation at home and focus less on the school work that I am currently doing. Another example could be that I have an important game later on after school. It could be on my mind for the entire day and be sidetracked from my schoolwork all day long but I also feel like this happens not only to me but to other people. Overall I sometimes prioritize other things and tend to lose focus on school work, practices and hanging out with friends. To really improve your focus you want to really focus on one thing at a time and although it sounds pretty simple it sometimes can be challenging to do so but just really try to focus on one thing at a time and try to do it the best you can. Listen to music before the event or presentation it’ll help you focus and keep your mind straight.
