A Day in the Life of a 21st Century Teenager
Dear Diary,
I’ve been so swamped with homework lately, it’s not even funny. It’s as if teachers don’t know we have other classes. “It’ll only take one hour,” they say, as if we don’t have other teachers saying the same thing. Reading and writing and staring at the screen for hours doing some online assignment gets a tad boring after a while.
Then, inevitably, I’ll find myself distracted from my homework, scrolling through Instagram or Facebook in a different tab (since I’m already on the computer, right?). It’s not like that’s all I do, though, sometimes I read too, a lot of books are online. The internet truly is a great resource. How did other generations live without it?Exercise? What’s that? LOL. The only time I walk is when I go down to the kitchen to get snacks.
My little sister wanted me to play soccer with her. Me and soccer? Nope. Now she’s goofing around on Youtube. I yelled at her from my room. “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU WANTING TO MAKE THE SCHOOL SOCCER TEAM?” “YOU WOULDN'T PLAY WITH ME,” she yelled back. Sheesh, ten year olds, amiright?
My P.E. teacher says one third of adults are obese, that if we follow the trend, one half of my generation will be. Doesn’t she know I’m skinny as a stick? I can eat and eat and won’t gain anything, I’ll be fineeeeee.
It’s sleep that I think I need. I’ve got no energy, but I sleep a lot. It just doesn’t make sense! Gosh, I complained to my health teacher and she told me to exercise. How will exerting myself give me energy? I’m always so tired when I run, so how are sports supposed to help?
Plus, even if I wanted to, I’m not playing or running outside in this weather. It’s freezing! I could run in the summer…………but nahhhh, what if I get kidnapped who sees me on the sidewalk. Yeah…that’s my reason and I’m sticking with it.
I read somewhere that cardio strengthens your heart and increases your stamina which helps you living a long, healthy life. The average lifespan is eighty years, that’s long enough…
I see these sport people sweating buckets and breathing all ragged after their games and I don’t see the fun in it. Exercise seems like too much effort for me. Sleeping and eating is what really appeals to me. Though maybe I should get myself a healthier diet...and it probably wouldn’t kill me to actually participate in my P.E. class...it certainly would help my GPA at the very least. Hey, that could be my New Year's resolution! Bye diary! Sincerely, a twenty first century teen.
